My journey into art has been anything but ordinary. I’ve spent decades behind the camera—working in television broadcast news, commercial production, and live events as a cameraman, editor, producer, director, and yes, even the occasional shop floor sweeper. That experience taught me the power of storytelling, composition, and capturing moments that matter. But my heart has always been with the ocean. Growing up on or near beaches—from far-flung Midway Island to coastal spots around the world—gave me a deep love for the sea. Scuba diving opened my eyes to an entirely new world of sights and colors, and that sense of wonder still fuels my creativity. Hi, I’m Rick Nichols, the artist behind WAUI Arts. Today, I’m lucky to call the beach my home, where the waves and sunsets continue to inspire me daily.
